ABOUT WESTWYND ARABIANS
Here at Westwynd we feel it’s a great privilege to own and breed Arabian horses and know in our hearts that our horses own us. Every morning as we open the big doors to the barn we are greeted with high pitch whinnies of “good morning, where’s breakfast?” We soak in their huge black eyes and natural wild looking unclipped manes.
With breakfast over, the mares, foals and our upcoming stallion stamp their feet ready impatiently because they know it’s time to leave the comfort of their stalls to romp and graze on the rich grasses that await them in the lush fields. As they are brought out in pairs of two we can feel them tremble with emotion and excitement as each of them get closer to their moment of freedom. As each mare, foal and yearling are now free from their halter, we watch in awe at such beauty and feel so humble to have these gifts of incomparable value to cherish and savor every day. We look on with gratitude, to be where we are in our breeding program. |

Although every breeder looks to breed perfection we never lose sight of the fact that what “perfection” is to one person may not be that to another. We believe in looking ahead and try to breed five generations ahead and hope our plans go the way we dream them to be. We also believe in pedigrees. Without family trees and the knowledge of who is on them you have no history and no idea what to expect from your breeding plans. Before breeding one of our mares we select 2-3 stallions for her as we believe the mares are the greater contributor to the future foals. Once we decide on the stallions we compare pedigrees. We prefer to line breed our mares rather than outcross because we find it strengthens our breeding lines and type. We breed out every three generations. After we put the pedigrees together, we make our selection and know in our hearts that we’ve done the best we can and now it’s up to Mother Nature. By doing everything we can to ensure another unique and healthy Westwynd Arabian foal for next spring, we like all other Arabian horse breeders sit back down to dream about the next possibilities.
ABOUT THE FARM
Heather Brady and husband Kirk Kimball own and operate Westwynd Arabians. It is located in beautiful Langley, British Columbia. Not far from the heritage village of Fort Langley where visitors and tourists come from around the world to see the original Fort which still stands on the banks of the Fraser River today. The farm is surrounded by the huge breathtaking Rocky Mountains and wild life is apparent everywhere you glance, from the eagles nesting in the nearby tree, to the deer grazing peacefully in amongst the band of brood mares and foals. As you find your way up the driveway you are greeted by Heather and Kirk’s family dogs.
The two Golden Retrievers, Legend and Nova, both look for equal time, pats on the head with maybe a ball thrown once or twice.
The third dog is a little Jack Russell named Taunt whom everyone will tell you runs things down at the farm. Heather and Kirk also have three cats, two housecats named Mancho, because he was the only one of his family that survived being run over by a truck. The other housecat is named Eebo, she has a face only her owners could love. She looks like she ran face first into a wall. Last but not least is the Grey Bomber. He’s the main cat-man of the whole farm. He is the mouse catcher extraordinaire.
For all the two legged and four legged ones that live at Westwynd Arabians it is an exciting time. With the help of many friends and especially that of their mentor Jo-Anne Camponne of Dream Arabians, Heather and Kirk continue to watch their breeding program grow and expand into new venues and generations every year.
